Manifesting from Balance

by Alan McAllister, CCHt PhD-phys

Imagine yourself standing outdoors, naked feet rooted into the earth, through the grass, into the soil, drawing sustenance up from the body of our planet. Give yourself a gentle breath, down to your feet, into the ground and back again. Releasing the out breath, follow it up into the sky and open your awareness to the heavens above, the air that you breathe, and the stars beyond. Breathe cosmic energy back into your being. Receiving sustenance from both, feel fully and completely alive.

The Chinese sages spoke of the Nameless Tao giving rise to Heaven and Earth, from which the interaction of Yin and Yang generate the ten thousand things. The universe we live in is characterized by duality and polarity. On all scales from the Galactic to subatomic, the dance of the separation and attraction of opposites provides the necessary creative tension for the manifestation and evolution of physical forms and of life.

In the spaces between the polarities energy flows; from source to ground, from hot to cold, from light to shadow, from Sun to Earth. The first thing a dividing nucleus does is to polarize itself, creating a space and a field that defines the structure for the doubling of the DNA and the formation of a new cell. As a human being you exist in the biosphere, the thin layer between Heaven and Earth, rich with the web of Life, supported and protected between bed rock and atmosphere.

On the human scale the feminine and masculine are expressed in form as male and female, but are vastly deeper and more general. Being fundamental aspects of the Divine, they exist in, and makeup, everything that is created and manifest. Life and matter are like a bar magnet, which has a North pole and a South pole that cannot be separated. If you cut a magnet in half you will have two magnets and two sets of poles. Until you get to a single electron, which cannot be divided, but has still two poles. Yin and Yang in the manifest universe are interwoven on all levels like a fractal image.

Have you ever tried to define the masculine and the feminine? Only the human mind tries to simplify matters. Like hot and cold, masculine and feminine are generally relative. The same temperature in the fall that feels chilly as you go into winter, feels warm and balmy as you come into the spring. Let any human quality sit in your mind’s eye for a while and you will realize that each has a masculine expression and a feminine expression. We know that the masculine protection of the father and the feminine protection of the mother are qualitatively different, and yet they overlap, reflect, and complement each other.

As human beings whether you are in a female body or a male body, you are comprised of both masculine and feminine. From our atoms to our emotions, and our thoughts we are comprised of both. As spiritual beings we are not limited by duality but are capable of being and expressing everything. As a human expression of that complete spiritual being, you have access to it all. The question is simply, what serves you as a being? How do you choose to express your essence through your particular body?

The masculine and the feminine are not only universally interwoven, but they are always in a general if inexact balance. Whenever, and wherever, there is an imbalance there will be a process to correct it, like the lightening. This striving towards balance and unity is how things are created and come into being. The ongoing dance between low pressure and high pressure in the atmosphere, driven by the energy of a spinning Earth, gives rise to all of the infinitely varied weather patterns that we experience. The imbalances are transitory and always relative.

At times there may appear to be a dominance of either the masculine or the feminine, but if a pattern is lasting there will be a less apparent dynamic that keeps things from being as out of balance as they seem. Whenever there is a true imbalance, forces will come into play to correct it. Remember that as human beings, there are physical levels, but also energetic, unconscious as well as conscious. A matter of outer seeming moving in one direction, may be balanced by an inner/unseen aspect moving in the other. It is a complex evolving web that we weave, both in our relationships and within our selves, but at the foundation the feminine and the masculine are always partnered in the dance.

The light that travels billions of years across the breadth of the universe from a dying sun until it comes to rest in your eye is the co-creative dance of electric and magnetic fields. Feeling into the Earth again, notice a flow of life force available there. Imagine receiving her energies up through your feet into your being. Feeling into the sky and the heavens, there is another flow coming from above. Imagine yourself receiving the life force that radiates from Source into your crown and down into your being. Like the dancing fields of light, these flows of life force mix in your chakras, generating your life force, your Light, which we also call Love. Feel the singing, dancing, interplay of life force flowing through your whole human being, in your atoms, in your cells, in all the energy centers, in your emotions and your mind, you are a weave of masculine and feminine energies making love to each other, giving birth moment by moment to you.

There is a place where the polarities come together where everything is available and possible. It is much easier to create from that central part of you that is connected to the unmanifest, that is formless as the Void, than it is to reshape and mold things that are already manifested. But we only get there we have healed our own internal divisions, our own internal arguments and conflicts and learn to make love in and with ourselves. Internally this means the yoga/union, of the right and the left, the intuitive and the analytic, the head, the heart, and the belly, the conscious and the unconscious, integrated into the whole being that you are in Spirit. The more complete we are in ourselves the easier it is call in or manifest appropriately in our lives.

So dance on the earth, under heaven, centering in the deep essence of Self; play with the dynamic balance and integration of masculine and feminine within your Self. In wholeness your visioning will be unified, and your intention clear. In forming your intention, the visioning part is relatively mental and masculine, though you’re also using your intuition. Bring in your feeling now, the emotional sense of the state of being that resonates with your intention. Though clarifying, forming, and energizing your intention is necessary, the process is still incomplete. You must release it into the universe and cultivate a receptivity to allow it to come back to you. Creating a space, in your Self and in the world to receive your creation, like the cell creating a field as it divides, you must hold an energetic womb welcoming the growing form of your creation. This more globally feminine aspect of manifesting is often neglected.

Being receptive requires presence and patience. You must release it to Spirit, and although cannot simply forget it, it is crucial to avoid the mental energy of worry, of effort, of forcing things. This is a dance of finding your certainty and trust that the universe is co-creating with you. It is necessary to release fear but also excitement, the relief side of fear, which will almost as completely break apart an incoming manifestation. The dance may require for you to do a few things along the way, or at least pay attention to the early signs of possibilities and potentials, but with patience and no attachment. Watching the pieces come and go, with as much equanimity as possible, until your vision has fully landed.

Cultivating healthy conscious relationships with both your feminine and masculine aspects and, a dynamic cooperative relationship between them, is the human homework for learning to manifest easily and powerfully. I once did a ceremony in a sacred place, the last part of which was a calling in of the divine masculine. I assumed that my human mind has a limited vision of what that might be for the 21st century, so I invited Spirit and my higher Self to show me, trusting that I would receive what was appropriate. A few days later dear friend of mine did some body work on me and when she was done commented that she had noticed a new masculine energy coming into the right side of my body. I thought it was pretty cool that she could validate that I was already receiving what I had asked for. But she continued; mentioning that she could see the feminine energy on the left side of my body reacting to the evolution of my masculine energy, checking it out, and beginning to adjust. If one changes the other will also.

Life is whole, complete, and dynamic, as we adjust or heal our masculine aspect or our feminine, the other one will also naturally adjust and evolve. This is true both personally and collectively. All creation is co-creation between the polar aspects of manifest being, between humans and spirit, men and women, masculine and feminine. I am excited and curious to see where this journey will lead, how will we learn to make love? to co-create, together and internally in the coming times?

Creative Filtering

Have you ever gone shopping for something when you already know exactly what you want? In the grocery store these days its in and out. In a store that has sales people you may still get someone running through a whole list of related items that they think you might want, ought to want. Occasionally these are useful, but mostly not.

If you know what you want and stick politely to your guns you will be fine. When you are not quite sure what you want, then its harder to fend off the extra information and helpful suggestions. You may go in for a shirt and walk out with a whole suit.

We are individual human beings, but we are not isolated from the rest of the world. We need/want various things, information, and emotional connections, just as we need air, water and food. When we go looking for something, or uncritically receive something that happens along, it is easy to get more than we need.

This is not about someone else being ill intentioned, it is about knowing what you want. The more clearly you know what you want the easier it is to get just that. Much of the time we don’t know exactly what we want, or we are exploring, or responding to someone else who wants to gives us something.

So it is important to give yourself permission to set filters, energetic screens that allow in what you need and weed out the rest. Take reading a book. Critical reading means that in some form you are scanning what you read to see if it makes sense to you, or if it is useful, resonant etc. You may be intellectually correlating it with other things you have read? You might be emotionally checking in to feel if it resonates in your heart?

You might think its just words, but there are whole layers of beliefs and assumptions, even emotional content, that can come with those words. Do you want the authors whole life view in your head? If yes, fine; if not set an intentional filter to limit what you take in. You can do this without knowing consciously exactly what that is either. Your body/self, higher Self and Spirit will work it out for you.

Its not about who you like or don’t like. Its about what’s useful or resonant.

Similarly on the phone. You might want or need to listen to someone, but not want to take on all the emotional content that comes with the words. It can be very important to set a filter on the speaker or line. I often use the image of a rose, because I like roses. But you can use whatever works for you, just be sure to set the filter outside your personal space.

Even what comes down from the unseen levels, should be filtered, especially until you have an established relationship. Not everything that comes out of spirit is useful or relevant. But your body/being can tell you if it’s resonant for you.

Be creative, but be simple. The key is that you have the right to choose, and if that intention is strong, the universe will back it up.

So rather than fighting with that sales person, just set a filter, and like an anemone in a flow of ocean water, cull out what you need and let the rest flow by. When you have what you need, thank them and go about your day.

Bookmarking Balance

by Alan McAllister, CCHt PhD-phys

The last full moon, the one that was eclipsed, rose the next night in front of the constellation Libra. In the hills above Boulder, co-creating ceremony that night, the energies in the temple were high, with the Sun mediating Aries, intense initiation and mental will. Part way through the meditative phase I was drawn to the pillar that mediates Libra there, and as I touched it a wave of deep energy flowed into me, the balance of Libra. Nearly impossible to put into words, it was dynamic, but deeply centered and reassuring, with a sense of safety and a lack of a need to “do”. Being in this Balance was the place to navigate the Aries/Mars intensity and activity.

I turned across the space and the moon herself was just rising in the east, large and orange off the plains. The same sweet Libra energy was pouring through her gifting all who stood in her light.

It was both a blessing and a teaching, showing us, on a being level, a state, vibration, or atunement, that would be useful in the moment, but also as general resource for any time of forceful change or creation in life. Every so often you find yourself experiencing a state of being that is a profound teaching experience. This sort of grace can happen in nature, in ceremony or meditation, playing sports, or standing in the DMV. Anywhere Spirit can find you.

The first thing I do is drink it in. Relaxing into it as much as possible, opening my being to let every cell experience this aspect of Spirit, which is showing me a level of my own being that is always there, but which I’m not usually aware off. As I open to receive in the moment, I also invite my body/being to bookmark the experience.

Its like taking a photo, but with your whole being. Pausing to say to Self, remember this please. Being present enough with it that all levels of you can remember it. Logging the frequency, anchoring this special state of being, so you can return to it later.

As it is a state of your being this is always possible, even when the original situation has passed. When you go back to the physical place, or meet people who shared the original experience, it will naturally resurface. However, its still alive within you, especially if you have consciously asked your Self to make a note of it. The important thing is not that the ceremony was powerful and “took” us some place wonderful. It is that we allowed ourselves to respond by accessing the Balance in ourselves, remembering that our being could tune to the state of Balance. Once you know where that channel is, your body/being can return anytime by tuning itself there again.

It may not be as “easy” back at home, but it is possible. The return is not something to think your way into, though calling up visual or kinesthetic memories can help. It is a request to your body/Self, which has bookmarked it and knows how to return. Like many things the more you practice this, the easier and richer it becomes. Perhaps you start in a meditation, or on a walk or some other place that supports you. Over time it becomes easier, clearer, and you can tune back to that special state anywhere you choose.

So the next time you are having a deep spiritual experience, or find yourself in a profound place, be present, experience it as openly as possible, receive that blessing, but also say hello to your Self and make a note to anchor it. Bookmark this place in your own being.

Since that ceremony, when I’m feeling that a little Balance would be good, I can close my eyes and call it up out of my body/being. Giving it attention and holding space for it, I call it in, or tune back to it, but it is something that is now alive in me, a special place I know and can return to. If you missed that full moon, and would like some of its energy, set an intention with Spirit and your Self, invite the stars of Libra to show you now, or in your meditation. I’ll add a dash to this letter as well. Enjoy.

Time Travel

Daydreaming we travel in space and time. You are off in the past remembering a beautiful sea shore or mountain stream, or out in the future imagining your next vacation. Even planning a meeting or reviewing the last one, you are not entirely in the present.

Your body is located now in time, and we are used to thinking of ourselves as similarly being in present time, but psychically and energetically we are time travelers.

Recently listening to a story of traumatic events, I remembered a car accident I was a passenger in as a teenager. My neck starts hurting, I can feel the urge to fly up and out of my body, and I notice an internal freeze reaction to something I cannot escape or do anything about that is shutting down feeling. The past is still with me, or I am partially still then. Time is mixed at a level beyond traveling in my imagination. Part of me is still existing in or connected to that past time, and when I think or talk about it, or experience something similar now, I am time traveling back, remembering or even re-experiencing that time and those events.

Our awareness moves into the past with each memory and association. We regress in ourself to become again the teenager, child or infant that we were then. Things that we experienced incompletely at the time carry residual emotional charges, which pull us back. The more so for larger charges.

Sitting consciously with the old experience the emotions can complete and fade, my neck is ok and I feel more alive and spacious. I have released the charge, reclaiming life force and returned to be more fully present in the now. This allows me to reset my expectations and relationship with the world today, being more open to positive experiences, rather than bracing against negative, and life responds, opportunities appear.

We know what it means to be scattered in the present. Most of us are also scattered in time, but each charged memory, habit or old pattern that we can sit with and clear, allows us to live as our adult self in the present, responding rather than reacting to each new experience.

There is an irony here. The more our awareness is consciously or unconsciously elsewhen, the more likely we are to incompletely experience the here and now, to miss things, or leave a residual emotional charge that will keep part of us in this moment, and thus in the future pull us back into this past. The more we avoid the moment, the longer we will carry it with us. The more present we are with it the, the less we will travel unconsciously in time.

Its not bad to be able to consciously time travel, to remember or revisit, but when we unconsciously leave pieces anchored behind us, we loose the choice and are constantly being distracted, dealing with the present as if it was the past, and the wheel turns round and round.

Releasing the old pictures, clearing the charges and completing old emotions allows us to come forward from the past. We become whole and coherent, as does our present experience. Unscrambling time we have richer more effective and rewarding experiences in the present. The more you do it the easier it becomes.

Beside Yourself

Since I started to experience the energetic side of being human, its been fascinating to realize how many turns of speech are references to things that actually happen on that level. The phrase “to be beside yourself with” an emotion, e.g. grief, anxiety, fear, or even joy, is a literal description of what often happens when we experience intense emotion in the body.

Unless we have cultivated a friendly relationship with our emotions, when they arise intensely our spirit often choses to leave, and we dissociate, upwards, sideways, or elsewhere. This is a built in protective response, to avoid overwhelming and crashing the system. It is meant to be a temporary condition, not a habitual or permanent one. When we come to fear our emotions we become cut off from a large part of who we are. The space in our being in which our spirit and soul experience life is shut off to keep old incomplete emotions at bay and we become permanently beside ourselves.

In order to embody our Soul fully we need to allow those old emotions to complete, release and evolve. Giving space to unfinished, unexperienced, dissociated emotions means coming back into relationship with them by learning that we can experience them safely (if not entirely comfortably) and come out the other side being more fully our Self.

Being present with your emotions is not the same as being in your emotions, as being identified with them. Being besides yourself creates a little distance between you and your emotions. This is appropriate, as they are not your essence. Being in relationship is the middle way between identification and complete dissociation.

With an inner orientation you can anchor in your Essence, staying present with your emotions and allowing them to move through your body. Let them be beside you, while you remain embodied. Practice experiencing them, staying inside the edge of being overwhelmed. Let the natural fear and resistance rise up and evaporate off, like the fog lifting in the morning, or a static charge grounding into the earth. When they are particularly intense having someone you trust to hold space for you, as witness, can be key.

With experience, you will be able to hold space for more often yourself. Make friends with your emotions as pure states of being, not the stories that the mind attaches to them, trying to justify or make sense of them. That is the level where attachment and resistance arise and it is necessary to let it go. As you learn to be present with the physical experience, even the energy of dissociation, which is meant to eject you, will eventually dissipate, creating a wonderful spaciousness for your life force to flow in.

Just as for a child that is emotional, you simply need to be present, hold them and know that they will be ok; that the tears, or fears, or joy will come and then pass on. This is the nature of energy. Learning to be in relationship with your emotions, to give them space without leaving, is learning to hold space for yourself to experience them and then say goodbye. Let your emotions be beside you, knowing that you can walk with them without fear, knowing that the body can experience them and let them pass through. You are reclaiming your body as home to your Self.
